NBA Premium Play 03/09: Utah Jazz @ Philadelphia 76ers

NBA - 803 Utah Jazz @ 804 Philadelphia 76ers

Projected line: 194 points

***TRIPLE DIME PLAY***

The Sixers are coming from a big home win against the Celtics, who were in a horrible spot for that contest. Coach Doug Collins decided to make some changes in the lineup and inserted Turner in the lineup, who really looked like a guy who could carry the offense. When I heard Thad Young was going to miss the game, I believed the Sixers wouldn't be able to push the pace enough to wear the decrepit Celtics out, but the defense did the job early on. Iguodala, Jrue and Turner each contributed with a number of plays to spring the break, while Turner's one-man-fast-break off defensive rebounds was too much for Boston to handle! Philadelphia had excellent offensive numbers in that contest with 48% FG, 26 fast break points and 44 points in the paint! Their transition plays worked incredibly well against Boston, a half court oriented team, with 9-12 FG and 1.54 PPP!

On the other hand, Utah had been horrible early on the road, but they are now much more focused on this road trip. They are 2-0 in their last two games, even though they played in Cleveland and in Charlotte. The Jazz have been highly focused in feeding their frontcourt, a very smart idea looking at their great interior unit. At the same time, their backcourt has been pushed up the pace in their games and Utah has been taking advantage of the mobility of their big guys to also score a good number of fast break points. In fact, they are averaging 18.1 fast break points per game since the All Star break! In this particular matchup, Utah will have an edge in the frontcourt against the Sixers. Philadelphia is the #1 ranked defense in the defense, but in terms of post up defense, they are "just" #10 by allowing 0.79 PPP. Utah will also have an edge in terms of rebounding, an area where they have been excellent recently and with their current great confident, I expect them to be highly competitive today. Obviously, Philadelphia will have some edges on this contest, with Turner starting and looking at the Sixers ability to score in transition and attacking the poor perimeter defense of the Jazz, who are just #22 on spot up defense while allowing 1.15 PPP!

These two teams have faced each other early on the season and Utah won at home, even without Big Al, as Favors had a big game with 10-16 FG 20pts and 11reb! In that game, both teams scored a lot of in transition with 20 and 16 fast break points, while they were also aggressive by having 29 and 33 free throw attempts! I expect something similar for tonight, as we have a frontcourt edge for Utah and a backcourt edge for Philadelphia in here. With both edges favoring the offenses of both teams, I expect a lot of offensive effectiveness by both teams in here and so, I came up with a totals projection of 194 points, high enough for me to take the Over in here in a Triple Dime Play! I believe the in-form Utah Jazz have all the necessary conditions to make this game a highly competitive one and so, I'll be also taking Utah on this contest.
