On my WS series play on Texas, I’ve mentioned that the Rangers’ starting pitching strength is the biggest weakness of the Cardinals hitting crew. Bottom line: we have several Rangers’ “groundball pitchers” against the team that led the league in GB/FB rate and Grounded Double Plays as well.

I will now paste only M. Harrison advanced stats:

M. Harrison: 30 (ranked #2)

So far in the playoffs, Harrison has made a serviceable job for the Rangers. Hit pitch count was high in both games against the Rays and Tigers (97 & 91 pitches for just 5 innings of work) but this won’t be a big issue at all as the Rangers bullpen will be ready to go. The good news is that Harrison did not allow a Home Run and his damage was limited to two runs in both games.

On the other side we have Kyle Lohse pitching for the Cardinals and I really don’t expect Lohse to be able to hold the Rangers bats on their home stadium. 

He struggled in both postseason games against the Phillies and the Brewers. Note that he was able to hold the opposing bats for the first time as did not allow any run in the first 3 innings of both games but then he was severely pounded after that!   

I have to remember that Kyle Lohse has the highest ERA of his career in the Rangers Ballpark - he has posted a 6.75 ERA there, surrendering eight home runs in just 28 innings of work! 

As you can see, I think that the Rangers have a huge edge in the starting pitching matchup.
Now into to the offensive/defensive matchups:

Josh Hamilton is hurt and he was given one day off yesterday. Even though his effectiveness won’t be the same obviously, the Rangers have now the “DH advantage” and Ron Washington can manage better this situation. However the same thing can be said about the Cardinals catcher Molina with a thumb injury.

The monumental Rangers comeback in the last game was huge for them going forward this series. I wasn’t expecting that the true is that the Rangers bats were anxious during game 2. They were chasing bad pitches time after time… Jaime Garcia almost got a career best K’s with 7 K’s and we are talking about the Rangers – they were last in the league during the regular season with 14.9% K%’s (NOTE: being last was a good thing!).

After losing 3 consecutive games in the World Series (if we count last series’ two losses against the Giants), I expect the Rangers to be more “relaxed” for tonight and “unleash” their offense.

Finally note that this game will be played in Texas so the “cold days” are gone and the Rangers bats will thank that.

I had the Rangers to win the World Series before the start of the series but couldn't make a bet or play on them because the price was damn right! After watching game 1, my thoughts remains the same despite the loss of the Rangers, however we have now an adjusted series price that offers way more value to back the Rangers and I’m taking them at this price.

Despite all the struggles during the postseason and some flaws in game 1, CJ Wilson made a nice job last night while giving the Rangers a fair chance to win the ballgame. I was expecting that because I had the Under 7.5 as my Single Dime Play and now I’m pretty sure that Wilson will offer the same thing in his next matchup against Carpenter later on the series.

The main reason for his partial success is the same reason why the Rangers will win the World Series: The Rangers starting pitching crew is a bad matchup for the Cardinals hitters!

I think that we have some value with the Rangers to win the World Series at this very moment and I’m taking them as my Single Dime Play.

Things couldn't possibly get any worse yesterday in Soccer. All “our” teams scored first and early on the game but they couldn't keep the lead and we lost all the 3 plays. I saw the FC Porto game and honestly we deserved to lost the play as the Portuguese team sucked hard especially on the second half. Their head coach did a terrible job in managing the team during the game and here in Portugal there are some rumors that he won’t last long with the job. I’m trying to make a bounce back today in soccer as we have multiple UEFA Europa League games to handicap, check back later.

In this contest I’m taking FC Porto AH -1.25 (-1, 1.25) for a Triple Dime Play! My fair line is FC Porto to win by at least two goals of difference so in my opinion we have a lot of value with this play.

The Portuguese team is the strongest team of the group and the loss in Russia against Zenit in the last round did not change my mind at all in this thought. They started the Champions League with a 2-1 home win against Shakhtar Donetsk but do not let the result foul you: the game was a huge mismatch for FC Porto! A 23-7 edge in overall shots says it all! Then they lost on the road against Zenit by 1-3. However note that the game was tied 1-1 in the first half when wingback Jorge Fucile was sent off. FC Porto simply ran out of gas in the second half which was quite understandable: 1) they were playing without one man for more than 45 minutes; 2) they had to deal with a huge travel to Russia (from Portugal) & cold weather for a tough physical spot and finally 3) they were coming from a huge domestic game against the main rivals SL Benfica – a emotional and physical letdown was almost inevitable!

For this contest, midfielder Freddy Guarin is available after serving a 2-game ban and he is pivotal for FC Porto! With him on the field, they can pressure high on the pitch and we can expect FC Porto to have +60% of ball possession.

On the other side, Apoel Nicosia is the biggest surprise of the competition so far. They have 4 points via defeating Zenit at home 2-1 and got a draw on the road against Shakhtar. However I’m not impressed with them! Note that they have several Portuguese players or players that played in Portugal and ALL OF THEM while on Portugal did not play (and don’t have the proper level to play) on the best clubs.

I want to highlight the fact that they were extremely lucky to get a draw in the last round against Shakhtar!  Shakhtar had 62% of ball possession, a 9-2 edge on corners and a 23-3 overall edge on shots! 23-3!!! It was just one of those days when everything goes wrong for one team...

Certainly I don’t think Apoel will be lucky once again while FC Porto is primed to make a strong statement at home! Take FC Porto AH -1.25 as my Triple Dime Play!

I’m taking Valencia AH +0.25 (PK, +0.5) in this contest as in my opinion we should be dealing with a true 50/50 line! If this game ended up with a Draw we will collect 50% of the winnings while the other 50% will be pushed. 

Valencia has 2 points going on to today’s game. They laid an egg in the first round against Genk on the road even though they dominated the game as a 19-7 edge on overall shots might convince you. Then they draw at home against the best team of the group – Chelsea. With was a back and forth game with both teams creating several chances to score (Valencia had a 56/44 ball possession edge and 15-9 overall shots edge as well).  

The sense of urgency for Valencia is huge for today because a potential loss would put them in a huge hole in the group so I expect them to be focused and bring their best effort. They are struggling a bit as of late in their domestic league but facing Barcelona, Sevilla and Chelsea in just 8 days isn’t easy for any team.

On the other side, Bayer Leverkusen has 3 points due to a “natural” home win against Genk. They will be shorthanded for today’s game and in my opinion this will be the X factor: their best Wingers Renato Augusto and Tranquillo Barnetta are both absent because of knee injuries and naturally I expect Leverkusen to have some problems in developing their natural wide-spread offensive game.

They still have Kiessling, Derdiyok and  Ballack – a good offensive trio, but all these players prefer to play from the center. The issue is that Valencia usually plays with two defensive minded central midfielders so they can patrol better this area and they will be able to neutralize that German trio.

Leverkusen isn’t a good defensive team at all and I expect Valencia to be pretty opportunistic in this contest.

CSKA Moscow has only one point so far in the competition and so this is basically a must win game for them – any other scenario than a today’s win will put them way behind the group and with few chances to qualify for the next round.  

Their ability to attack and score goals is unquestionable. Already in this competition, they have scored two goals against Internazionale at home and put another two goals on the net against Lille in France. Vagner Love and Doumbia form a nice combo on the front while young talented Russian midfielder Dzagoev dictates the tempo of this team. 

This isn’t a good spot for Trabzonspor at all as any road CL’s game in Russia at this time of the year: long trip, cold weather and an artificial grass field, especially for a team from the South of Europe like Trabzonspor . 

On my projected scenario, I expect the CSKA Moscow to score at least one goal due to their offensive prowernss so the X factor of this contest is what Trabzonspor will do on the offensive end.

CSKA’s weakest link has been their defense as they already conceded 5 goals in two games but on my opinion they will be able to handle the Turkish offense with some ease! 

Trabzonspor scored one goal on the road against Inter but note that Inter’s team was a disaster in that point of the season that led to the firing of their head coach, also note that Trabzonspor attempted only ONE shot on target during all game (it was their goal scored!). In the last game against Lille, Trabzonspor scored only via penalty kick late on the game and managed to shot only 2 times on target – as you can see we are not talking about a good offensive team that creates multiple chances to score.

The problem is that their best striker Burak Yilmaz is still suspended for today’s game (he didn’t play in the first 2 games of the CL) and he has scored 8 of the 10 team goals in their domestic league! 80% of the team's total goals! Also, their “playmaker” Paulo Henrique is injured and won’t play today so I expect Trabzonspor to be a nullity on the offensive end. 

I’m taking  CSKA Moscow to win this contest.

In this contest I’m riding the Manchester United to win for at least two goals against the Romanian Champions Otelul Galati.

Man Utd didn’t start well the Champions League this season. They started with a draw (1-1) on the road against Portuguese team SL Benfica (which was understandable because on the paper, the Portuguese team is the second best team in the group) but then they draw at home against Basel 2-2 after being up 2-0 in the first half. They didn’t bring their best effort to the field and the outcome was a disaster. They are now 3rd in the group, with just two points, so they really need to start picking up points quickly!

So far in the CL, Head Coach Sir Alex Ferguson has been rotating their best players to make them fresh mainly for the English Premiership but this won’t happen in this contest. Last Saturday against Liverpool, Sir Ferguson took his chances by sitting Rooney, Nani, Anderson and Chicarito Hernandez from the starting lineup. His idea in my opinion is pretty simple: make them ready (and fresh) to play this contest! We can expect Man Utd to be ready physically and most importantly mentally for tomorrow…

Regarding the Romanian team… I saw their game against SL Benfica in the last round of the Champions League and they were completely outplayed at home. They lost 0-1 but the Portuguese dominance was pretty evident! They had 65% of ball possession, 8-1 edge in corners and 7-2 on shots attempts on target.  Even though Galati’s gameplan was basically to lay back and try to score on a fast break or a set pieces chance, they conceded several chances to SL Benfica while several holes on the back were exposed. Against world class strikers like Rooney or Hernandez, I expect them to be pounded.

Finally, they are not playing on their own stadium. Instead, this game will be played in Bucharest far away from Otelul in a large field that will benefit more Man Utd than the “home team”.

This is just a mere briefing message about what will be my plans for the near future regarding all the sports.

The Major League Baseball is now entering the final stages with the World Series matchup between the Cardinals and the Rangers. We had a successful regular season and we are enjoying a terrific postseason as well. Our Top Play record has been pretty phenomenal with a 21-4 YTD record w/Triple Dime Plays. Unfortunately we have only two more weeks of action so let's enjoy them while we can...

The upcoming NBA season is still uncertain and I must tell you that I have no good feeling at all so let's see what will happen. Regardless any decision, I'm now finishing the process of reviewing ALL last season's plays and taking all the considerations that will guide me for the future. I will compile a detailed report about the season later...

During the summer I was able to get a ton of statistical information for College Basketball. I have now some powerful advanced stats sheets' for all teams and I'm working to develop them into a Power Ranking system that I'll use in the NBA. I'll most likely cover this upcoming season with regular plays.

Being myself an European, my "background" sport was the soccer, the NBA appeared only later... Nowadays I'm still a follower of this sport, as I still watch a absurd number of soccer games and personally I'm betting in soccer for years. It makes no sense for me to keep betting it without sharing my opinions so soccer will be back to the card.

I've been sucking pretty hard in NFL since...well ever! After a another frustrating weekend for me I've decided to change my handicapping approach: basically, I will need "more edge" in order to get a NFL play so my volume will be extremely low from now on.

I think that the wrong team is favoured in this contest. Sure that the Brewers have been a real monster at home this season, but with a better pitcher on the mound and with an emotional advantage going to tonight's game makes the Cardinals ML the best play in here.

Shaun Marcum is really struggling in these playoffs, however note that his struggles started way before the postseason started. He isn't a power pitcher, instead he has a nice arsenal of different pitchers that he mixes it up to fool hitters. His best pitch (and mainly his best strikeout pitcher) is his changeup. The problem is that he just can't throw that pitch lately. In the last game against the Cardinals, Marcum threw the changeup only 11 times! We are talking about 72 pitches of work! Obviously he managed to get only one strikeout and struggled mightly against the Cards.

I don't expect for this trend to change tonight. The Cardinals have been one of the best teams in the league in avoiding K's (ranked #2 with 15.7% K%'s - only trailing the rangers) and they have the highest BB/K rate in the league! The Cardinals hitters are red hot and they will make Marcum work tonight.

Regarding Edwin Jackson, he has been "OK" (as usual) in these playoffs. Like the Rangers, Tony La Russa has been using wisely the bullpen and with one day off to rest I expect the Cardinals to get an early lead and then keep it up until the end. Take the Cardinals ML as my Triple Dime Play and the Over as my Single Dime Play.
